Port Bouvard Yacht Club

Sailing Fleets at PBYC

PBYC host a mixed fleet of yachts from single handed pram dinghies to Olympic class racers, racing is based on the Victorian Handicap system so you can be competitive in any design.

The yacht club currently has a fleet of roto-moulded small craft which have been specially designed for junior sailing. These are topper craft. The club provides Australian Sailing accredited training with qualified instructors. Lessons take place on Saturday mornings and cater for beginner to advanced juniors 9 years and over. Qualified juniors are also offered the opportunity of crewing on larger boats during the afternoon races.

Flying 15s

The Flying 15 is a one design monohull yacht with a fixed keel. It is raced at a number of clubs in Australia with the world championships sailed at Fremantle in 2023. It is a very safe boat and will handle stronger winds. The fleet welcomes new members with sailors in this fleet always ready to help with support for anyone who would like to try out in these boats. Help to find flying 15s for sale is provided by club members.

Mixed Catamarans

The catamaran fleet consists of a variety of off-the-beach catamarans. These include Hobies, Nacras, Windrushes and A class cats. They are either sailed solo or with a crew. A yardstick is applied to equalise the results when they are raced. New members are welcomed and advice on purchasing and setting up these boats is freely given. These are fast exciting boats to sail. The Harvey Estuary provides a great location to sail a catamaran

Trailer Sailers

The club is fortunate to have an extended jetty and double ramp from where trailable yachts can be launched. Priority is given to active sailing members who wish to store their vessels on the hardstand. We are always on the lookout for new members that can be added to this fleet. One attraction is the opportunity to participate in the twilight sailing which is an enjoyable social experience. Our trailer sailer members are happy to take out new crew to give potential members the opportunity to sail in this fleet.
